The Eurodiet is a four-phase weight loss and maintenance programme. It helps to keep a person in optimal health whilst losing weight at a substantially faster rate than a conventional diet.
The Eurodiet method has been used in Europe for over 15 years, with more than one million people successfully losing weight after being referred by their GPs. The four phase method was originally devised by French doctor, Dr Bernard Pinon. To support the method, Eurodiet foods, have been developed with nutritionists, health care experts and Michelin-starred chefs to ensure maximum success with optimum taste and nutrition.
Phases 1 and 2 of the Eurodiet are known as ketogenic diets where fat is burnt rapidly. Normally during this process, lean muscle is lost in addition to fat – Eurodiet is designed to allow you to retain your muscle tissue whilst healthily losing fat.
Phase 1 & 2 will induce the formation of ketone bodies. Ketone bodies help to induce satiety (feeling of fullness) and stop your feelings of hungry.
Eurodiet foods are low in carbohydrates, fats and calories and high in quality proteins.
The diet focuses on weight loss as well as weight maintenance and eating habits so that by the end of the programme, your approach to food has changed.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a statistical measure of body weight based on a person's weight and height. Though it does not actually measure the percentage of body fat, it is used to estimate a healthy body weight based on a person's height. It is defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of his or her height.

Most dietary weight loss methods involve reducing the number of calories you consume on a daily basis. Such a diet forces your body to draw on its own lean tissue (muscle mass) for fuel. You may lose weight, but some of this is water and precious muscle tissue. The Eurodiet programme provides foods which are low in calories, carbohydrates and fats and relatively high in quality proteins and a diet method that will allow you to lose weight from your fat (adipose) mass while maintaining your muscle mass. The Eurodiet foods are also nutritionally balanced to help you keep you healthy while you lose weight.

Firstly followers of the Atkins diet take on a lot of high saturated fats and may not get the vitamins minerals and essential amino acids that they need from other healthy foods. Eating fatty meats all the time is not going to do your heart any good!

Carbs are important as part of a healthy balanced diet but need to re-introduce slowly; that is why Eurodiet's Phase 3 is structured into 3 parts; 3a, 3b and 3c...In Phases 1 & 2 Carbs are under 50g to start ketosis but you cant be in ketosis for long periods of time and some people shouldn’t go into ketosis AT ALL. These people can start on Phase 3 of the Eurodiet.
We know that the science works with Atkins; it's the same as the Eurodiet method; reduce the amount of Carbs you eat and after a few days your body will look for alternative sources for fuel. This process is called ketosis.
Always remember: It's the process that makes you lose weight in ANY diet NOT the foods you are eating. The food just keeps you happy & healthy whilst you are losing weight following the method.
The key to long term success is to get back into healthy eating habits and that's what Eurodiet four phases teaches.
Most Eurodiet foods are suitable for vegetarians but not for vegans as they contain egg derived ingredients. All the pre-packed weekly phase kits are vegetarian; the only foods to contain meet are things like the Chicken Soup & Paella! A VLCD very low calorie diet is normally a liquid only diet between 500 and 800 calories a day made of meal replacements. This 800 Kcals threshold was chosen to distinguish VLCDs from Low Calorie Diets by an expert panel (Scoop report). Other guidelines place the threshold between VLCD & LCD at 1000Kcal.
The Eurodiet method consists in 4 phases ranging from around 800Kcal up to 1800 Kcals, tailored to meet your particular needs.
Eurodiet Phase 1 is around 800 calories + depending on the number of products and the amount of vegetables you take. It has been designed to progressively rebuild a healthy nutrition for the long term, not just too artificially replace your meals for a while. It also aims at being the less stressful diet for you, leaving your choices open.
Thus it is impossible to guarantee that you will be having exactly 800 Kcals a day.
However Eurodiet products are designed in order to accomplish, when taken together with other food sources, a high protein, low-carbohydrate diet (LCHOD): specifically a very-low carbohydrate, ketogenic diet (VLCKD) in Phase 1 & 2, and a low-carbohydrate, low-calorie diet in Phase 3 & 4.
Our choice of using Very Low Carbohydrate Ketogenic Diet (VLCKD), as the first phases of a long term weight loss program is based on considerable evidence on its efficacy and safety. Several studies have showed that this greater initial weight loss contributes to greater long term weight maintenance. Very low carbohydrate diets (carbohydrate <50g /day) have also shown beneficial effects in metabolic disorders, commonly related to obesity, such as the metabolic syndrome dyslipidemia, vascular inflammation cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Eurodiet always recommends that you inform your doctor if you are following any weight loss regime. You should also answer the health questionnaire accurately so that we may suggest a suitable phase for you to follow.
Eurodiet UK does not currently support the use of its method by anyone under 18 years of age or over 75.
No. We would never recommend dieting when pregnant. Phase 4 of Eurodiet is about eating a healthy balanced diet and the use of this phase is something that you may wish to discuss with your doctor. Please only consider use of this phase with the permission of your doctor.
Eurodiet Phases 1 and 2 are ketogenic diets and we recommend that they should only be used for a maximum period of 12 weeks.
If applicable to you, you may go back to Phase 1 after Phase 2 to increase weight loss and repeat the same cycle but please discuss with a Eurodiet consultant or your GP first (this will take you up to 12 weeks, where you must then move onto Phase 3 which is a low calorie diet).
If you have started on Phase 2 you may wish to remain on the phase after the initial 4 week period. If you BMI has dropped below 27 you should move onto Phase 3.
Phase 3 is not a ketogenic diet but a low calorie diet (LCD). This Phase is essential; in any weight loss journey, guiding you towards a healthy balanced diet.
No, providing that you present no major or relative contra-indications (see health questionnaire) and aren't taking on high levels of FAT; like the Atkins diet.

Note that the term "high protein diet" is misleading. The Eurodiet is not a "high protein diet" but an "adequate protein diet".
While following any of the Eurodiet Phases, from 1 to 4, you will receive a supply of an average of 70 to 100g of protein per day. This actually corresponds to the Daily Recommended Allowance in order to preserve the lean body mass (muscle mass) during weight loss.
Eurodiet products are formulated with easy-to-digest and natural proteins with high-biological value (milk, Soya, egg white, pea and wheat), covering your essential amino-acid needs and protecting muscle mass. Twelve vitamins, eleven minerals and omega 3-6 are added to the products according to the Recommended Daily Allowances, to prevent deficiencies.
In some cases losing weight can help reverse Type 2 Diabetes. However, we would request that you speak to your GP first to seek guidance before beginning any weight loss programme. If you suffer from Type 2 diabetes we would recommend following Eurodiet's Phase 3 a low calorie diet.
Everybody is different, and weight loss will vary depending on how much weight you have to lose. It's important to know that with all diets it's not the food that makes you lose weight; it's the method by which you’re doing it. The food should just keep you happy and healthy whilst you are doing it. No diet is aloud to make claims on how much weight you will lose. Eurodiet is about healthy, sustained weight loss not just quick results! Just note that the first 2 Eurodiet Phases are ketogenic so will produce the same results as other ketogenic diets.
Only those with a BMI of 30+ with no major contra-indications should enter into Phase 1 or BMI 27+ for Phase 2. Fat loss is rapid in these first two phases. Fat burning also occurs in Phase 3 and will continue sustainable slimming until your reach your goal in Phase 4 and have reached balanced nutrition where you can maintain your weight.
That depends on how much weight you have to lose. You should only follow a Phase that is suitable to you.
Phase 1 lasts just 2 weeks and Phase 2 lasts 4 weeks. After you’ve completed this you must move onto Phase 3 until you reach your goal.
If you still have a way to go you may remain on Phase 2 for another few weeks or if applicable you may go back to Phase 1 for another 2 weeks. The only rule is that you shouldn't follow Phases 1 and 2 for more than 12 weeks continuously. Phase 3 must then be followed until you reach you goal.
Phase 3 is split into 3 parts (a, b and c), allowing you to gradually increase your calorie intake and introduce more diverse foods into your diet, Leading you towards a healthy balanced diet for weight maintenance in Phase 4.
You do this by gradually reducing the amount of Eurodiet food you eat and eating more of your own meals. Phase 3 lasts between 4 and 12 weeks + until you reach your goal. Remember you can go back a Phase (if applicable) to increase your weight loss.
Phase 4 is a way of life and is designed to be easy to follow so you can live you life in balance.
Eurodiet cares about the health of those following the programme, and will not recommend any phase of our diet to anyone that is not suitable. If you have a BMI of 25 in order to maintain your health you are more suited to follow Phase 3, as this will be a safe and healthier option for you.
The Eurodiet Ketogenic Phases 1 and 2 are not suitable for a BMI under 27.
Eurodiet is about maintaining your health and teaching you healthy habits; by following Phase 3 and incorporating exercise into your day you should lose weight and tone up before your trip.
